Everything done

I finished everything, cell animation. rotoscoping, and editing the soundtrack for it and I'm fairly happy with everything. Its not so much a question of if I could go back what would I do different so much as a if I could go back then with what I know now. I have never used or even seen the flash program before this class, I'd always heard of it and was told I most companies are looking for flash animators these days so I needed to learn.

I think If I could do the project over with what I know now I would take more time with everything and just sharpen it up.

done

Okay my animation is pretty much done. Just a glitch here and there that I have to fix but nothing more needs to be animated. I'm having problems getting the music to go to all scenes instead of just the one I put it on but other than that I'm finished.

almost done!

FINALLLLYYY! I'm almost done with my animation. I finished all the cell animating last night and the other rotoscope I had to do and now all I have to do is one more rotoscope and then add sound and I'm done. My entire film will be done by thursday. And I did put a small clip of my animation up last post but apparently it didn't go through so I'll post a few in this one.

good news

I pretty much spent my weekend at montgomery but I'm nearly finished with my cell animation. I only have 2 more short scenes to go and a few tweekings of the two of the last scenes and I'm done. I should be done with these this class period and if not then definately done by tomorrow and I can't spend the rest of the time finishing up the rotoscoping and maybe title animation if I have time.

not much

not much to say in this one. I'm taking 3 studios right now so unfortunately I didn't have time to work on my film since last class. But I did make good headway last class, scene 4 of the six scenes I have to animate is half done so I'm happy about that. I still have 1 and a half more rotoscoped scenes to do.

sllllllloooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwww

Okay, everything's coming along super slow but at least coming along. I have 6 scenes to animate and 3 rotoscopes to do, I animated 3 scenes over the weekend and did 1 and a half rotoscopes. I still would've liked to have gotten more done but we still have a few weeks left and thats about all the time I need if that. I had a few questions about the scenes in two of my animations but I forgot to put them on my disk drive so I'll just bring them wednesday.

done

okay i'm pretty much done with backgrounds. I just have to fill in some little things in the last one and I can start animating. I've already begun my rotoscoping and am halfway through. So I think i'm making good progress with some and should be making better progress with others but overall i think I'm doing okay. I have 6 backgrounds overall, I'm sure I'll realize I need a few more when I start animating but those most likely won't be a big deal.

Background time

I was doing my background yesterday in flash when I realized halfway through It would look better and more consistent in the line tool and in black and white. So I deleted the color background done in the brush tool and restarted it in the line tool and made it black and white. It does look better and took me about 45 mins to an hour to do, I'm almost done I just have to fill in nightstand and the floor. I think thats pretty good considering the detail and everything and all the lines being manipulated line tool. I'm pretty happy with it overall. This is the opening over the first scene. I'm going to put the husband and the other woman in the bed. The main animations will be him smoking a cigarette and her cuddling up to him. I also want to animate the smoke. I haven't gotten too animating yet so I'm not quite sure how to estimate how long it will take but I should know by today.

Considering this background took me about an hour, and I have 5 other backgrounds, if I to do backgrounds a day I'll have all my backgrounds done in about 3 days, but I also have to add in time that I need to devote to other classes especially since I'm taking 3 studios this quarter I'm going to round my background time off to about a week.

Char sheets

here are my character sheets. They are in silhouette so the 8 different emotions kind of had to be 8 different head shots because most of the emotions will be expressed through body language so most of the emotion is all in the action shots.

Here is the husband.

here are the action shots

here is the wife.

here is the wife's action shots.

here is Cici, the other woman.

here is cici the other woman's action shots.

The husband was inspired by the character "Father" from the show "Kids Next Door" and the mother was loosely based on the mom from "Dexter's Lab." I kind of made Cici's 3 quarter shot's head too small in the turnabout by accident. I like the how the char sheets turned out, they actually ended up taking a lot more time than originally thought. I used the line tool in flash to create them and it ended up taking roughly 30 mins to an hour each.

Hustlin

here's the lipsync we had to do. Its the same little alien only now he's singing "hustlin", just a joke I thought was funny

Animated alien

I had forgotten to do the own animated character that we had to do with the jumping puppet. But I did it and here it is. It was done using the squash and stretch and motion tweening.

another update

Right now I'm changing my character sheets. Not my characters or the concept just instead of the brush tool I want to use the line tool in flash , it just looks cleaner and I kind of want that clean sleek kind of silhouette. The only tutorials I have left to do are the lipsynch animation, the walk cycle(which I'm almost done with), and that one part of the puppet animation where you had to animate your own character.

Favorite animation website

I don't really have a favorite animation website. I've seen some but none have really struck me. But hopefully I'll but my own up and that will be my favorite. I'm updating my character sheets and just making them better. I'm also adding some rotoscope to my film so that'll be cool. Thats it!

Rotoscope

Here is the rotoscope project we did. I didn't come out as smoothly as I wanted but it did introduce me to a method I really enjoy and will be employing in the future.

Some editing may happen to my script also and I'm considering using some rotoscope in it too.

Clown Animation

This is the jumping clown animation. We had to separate each part of the body and animate them separately with their own individual key frames. The head, jumping cord, and feet were separated.

Bouncing ball animations

For some reason it takes forever to process a video from this computer I'm not sure why. But hoping this works here are some bouncing ball animations.

This one was done by editing key frames.

This one was made using the ease in and ease out method.

sorry it took so long to get these up I didn't know it was supposed to take a good while for a video to upload so I kept giving up. But now i know.

My Animation movie

I want to do my own animated story to the song "True Romance" by She Wants Revenge. I want the story to be a kind of "Fatal Attraction" story line. A married man has an affair and she begins stalking him, going to his home, sending him flowers and pics of her, and generally other crazy nonsense. I want to do something neat with the style its carried out in though to make it unique. I was thinking of doing a stort of graphic designy shadow outline kind of style like the one employed by Lotte Reiniger. The style is still somewhat up in the air but thats what I would like to try. Here are some examples of the shadow outline style I'm interested in.

Here is some of Lotte Reiniger's work from Prince Ahkmed

And here's just a cool graphic design thing I found

My animation

I read that we had to choose what type of animation we wanted to do for this class. I don't really know what that means because I thought we HAD to do a flash animation, which is why we are learning flash. So i'm probably kind of confused. Anyways I wanted to do a flash animated music video. I don't know if that was an option but Its something I always really wanted to try. I wanted to do a story animation to the song "true romance" by "she wants revenge." and I'm really excited about it so I hope I get to do it.

I think a good animation is half well done animation and half well done sound and soundtrack. In my opinion you can't have a fantastic animation without both, one needs the other. Your memories of your favorite animated movie always comes with a particular sound or soundtrack when you think of them thats why I think a good soundtrack is very important in animation, its half the ambiance. And I think such a good song with such unique and retro rhythm will challenge me to do an animation that can meet the skill employed to create the audio.

This is original music video of "True Romance" by "She wants Revenge" I'm not sure how to just upload audio so I uploaded the whole video, enjoy!

This is a short flash movie created by Katy Towell. I love her work and she employed the shadow outline design that I'd like to do for my own work.

Favorite Animation

My favorite animation I would have to say is Shin Angyo Onshi. It is an animated movie created in Japan but based on the Korean manwha of the same name. I normally don't like anime or manga but though this movie employs a few animation cheats it also animates from many povs that I've never seen carried out as well as its carried out in this movie. It also has a very traditional sounding soundtrack that I enjoyed as well.
